From the press release:

Denver, CO: Mai Wyn Fine Art opens their summer gallery season with Regeneration, a two-person exhibition featuring new work by printmaker Sharon Strasburg and ceramist April Cannon. Both artists create abstract works loosely informed by the western landscape. Meet the artists at a Special Preview Event on Thursday, June 6th, from 5-8pm or at the Public Opening Reception held during 1st Friday Gallery Walk on Friday, June 7th from 5-10pm. Regeneration continues through July 13th, 2019.

Known for her richly hued monotypes, Sharon Strasburg has spent the last decade laser cutting and refashioning these works into ornate nature abstractions. Rocks, rivers and roots are the inspiration for this latest body of work. Strasburg starts with representational imagery and through her unique process distills it down to pure abstraction. The resulting works mounted on board read like suede and are often mistaken for inlaid wood, a rich tapestry of saturated color, pattern and variation. Sharon Strasburg is an affiliate faculty member at Regis University in Denver.

Ceramist April Cannon also draws inspiration from the natural world. Like a desert in bloom, her ceramic sculptures combine geometric, rock-like foundations with groupings of colorful, high gloss appendages or flowers. Drawing on personal reflection, Cannon considers the delicacy of life: how nature survives and flourishes in even the harshest landscape. April Cannon received her MFA at Fort Hays University in Fort Hays, Kansas in 2018.
