from the press release:
A solo exhibition of new work by renowned artist Gregory Euclide opens the fall gallery season at Mai Wyn Fine Art. Known for his surreal, environmentally responsive mixed media drawings and constructions, this exhibition features thirteen new works on paper and porcelain coated steel.
Gregory Euclide is among the foremost contemporary artists addressing environmental concerns and a changing landscape in their work. Incorporating both natural materials and everyday trash with idyllic landscape imagery, Euclide creates dreamlike worlds interrupted by telephone poles, banal architecture and other manmade obstructions. Areas of high detail and intricacy are juxtaposed with expanses of abstraction…be it color, pattern, or the memory of organic form. As featured in this exhibition, Gregory Euclide is perhaps at his best creating these small, intimate worlds.
An artist and teacher living in the Minnesota River Valley, Gregory Euclide’s work has been featured in museums and galleries throughout the country and abroad including: Badlands: New Horizons in Landscape at MASS MoCA, Otherworldly at the Museum of Arts & Design in New York and the solo exhibition Nature Out There at the Nevada Museum of Art. Currently a solo exhibition of his work is also on view the South Dakota Museum of Art entitled Unframing Lands View. Gregory Euclide has been awarded three Minnesota Artist Initiative Grants through the National Endowment for the Arts and just recently, the 2015-2016 McKnight Fellowship for Visual Artists. Euclide received his MFA from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design.
